Dear Capstone Student:
Thank you for your interest in student governance. Participating in the election process as a candidate can be one of the most rewarding and worthwhile experiences of your college career. We are pleased that you have made this decision and look forward to working with you during the campaign.
It is the desire of the Elections Board that the 2008 – 2009 elected student government will serve as an example of how students can participate in the governance of issues that affect them and learn leadership skills that will serve them all of their lives. Less tangible, but perhaps more important, is the network of relationships and friendships that will become an important part of your university experience and will provide lasting memories for years to come.
This packet should include all of the information that you will need as you participate in the election process. Please read the packet in its entirety, use the checklist of important dates as established by the Elections Board and comply with all the deadlines to meet various qualification procedures. You can contact the Elections Board via e-mail at sgaelections@sa.ua.edu if you have questions regarding this Candidate Orientation Packet.
NOTE: There are additional dates and requirements for those participating in the preliminary campaign period, Monday, February 4 through Thursday, February 21.
The Elections Board is committed to ethical campaigning procedures and reminds all potential candidates that, as stated in The University of Alabama Student Handbook, “a candidate is responsible for the actions of anyone campaigning on his or her behalf.” If questions remain after studying the SGA Constitution and the election regulations included in this packet, the Elections Board members will be happy to assist you in clarification. Should you need help, please contact the Elections Board at sgaelections@sa.ua.edu and we will refer you directly to an Elections Board member.
Sincerely,
2008 Elections Board
